Honda Civic Hatch 2015 Review

With huge boot space for a car this size, the Honda Civic Hatch is a surprisingly practical small car. Learn more here:

Safety is a priority for the 2015 hatch, with LED daytime running lights complementing a freshly styled front grille and rear bumper. The rear spoiler, nose, tail lights and body moulding has been refreshed to give the hatch a modern attitude.

This model also sports chrome accents on the grille and door panels.

Inside the 2015 Honda Civic Hatch

The standout feature of this hatch is its ample boot space — a feature that makes it a leader in this class of car for 2015. There are 390 litres before you put the seats down, with a deep space that makes it easy to fit large bags.

The trademark 'Magic Seats' adapted from the Honda Jazz fold back to give 1120L of space with easy access from the boot. A handy luggage net makes it easier to pack the car full. For a small car, you've got a lot of space.

The compromise that allows so much interior space is a space-saver spare tyre, so if you do get a flat on the open road you'll be limited to 80km/h until you reach a place you can get your tyre replaced.

Four adults can fit comfortably into the car, as it's larger inside than it looks from the outside. There are ISOFIX anchor points to secure child seats, but you won't find rear air vents in this model.

Loose items can be conveniently stored in the sizeable door pockets throughout and covered cup holders for the front seats.Image courtesy of Force GT

The driver can adjust the height and reach of the steering wheel. The 5 star ANCAP safety rating means there are six airbags installed. This car has a more luxurious feel than its counterparts, and the digital speedometer is well-placed in the driver's line of vision.

The only pain point in the internal layout is the fiddly volume control; however, there are buttons on the steering wheel for the driver to adjust the sound safely and easily.

Connectivity

The Honda Civic Hatch 2015 audio-display touch screen facilitates Bluetooth connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you can display apps on your smartphone. The reversing camera also displays on the 7-inch touchscreen.

For entertainment, there's also an AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player, 2 USB ports, as well as a HDMI port that you can use when the car is stationary.

What's it like to drive a 2015 Honda Civic Hatch?

The Honda Civic Hatch 2015 drives well, with responsive, progressively weighted electrical steering and quiet, shock absorbing suspension. The car handles well at high speeds with good road feedback, and it accelerates responsively at low speed too. At 6500 rpm you'll get 104 Kw power, with maximum torque of 174 Nm at 4300 rpm.

"Surprisingly responsive if you need some instant kick-down and forward thrust." - Byron Mathioudakis, Wheels Mag.

Driver assistance includes a hill-hold function in the manual transmission version, as well as a tyre pressure sensor to warn of slow leaks and Honda's Agile Handling Assist system improves stability while cornering.

The reverse camera is handy when parking, and helps to counter the one driver disadvantage of this model, the lack of clear rear vision due to the design of the large C pillars and rear window split glass.

If you're looking to conserve fuel you can select the green 'ECON' button which reduces the aggressiveness of the accelerator response. There's also the option to 'rest' the engine when you're stopped in traffic. When the lights turn green and you press the clutch, the engine fires up again.

"... gets the job done with moderate comfort and performance" - Simon Lai, Behind the Wheel.

You can see how economically you're driving by the light bar adjacent to the speedometer which rates your driving style as good, okay or higher consumption.

Who's the Honda Civic Hatch 2015 for?
